Abstract

Study on distribution of dissolved oxygen is important from the point of view of productivity and structure of water masses. Water samples at about 60 stations spread over the northern Arabian Sea were collected and their oxygen content estimated. The study reveals fairly high oxygen content in surface waters off the Bombay coast and along latitude 15 degree N. Progressive lowering in depth of oxygen minimum zone from 24 degree N southwards is also noticed. Subsurface upwelling around 60 degree E, 20 degree N seems to be in progress.
