Abstract

Stored cotton and fabrics show distinct signs of fungal decay in their colour, feel and strength besides other physico-chemical and biological characteristics. Fabrics show maximum loss in tensile strength during soil contact storage. The moisture content, and chemical constitution of cotton alongwith storage conditions are directly correlated with the intensity of decay. Maximum loss of strength of cotton is evident at 30-35OC temperature and 90-95 per cent RH. The fungi attacking cotton during storage are mesophilic Deuteromycetes
