Abstract
The electronic and infra red absorption spectra of potassium uranyl sulphate (K/Sub2 UO/Sub2(So/Sub4)/Sub2 2H/Sub2O) have been reinvestigated in the solid state and solution. A tentative analysis has been proposed, on the basis of four systems with a common ground state for the bands of the electronic absorption spectrum. For the infra red absorption spectrum of the compound, most of the bands could be interpreted as due to the ground state frequencies of the uranyl ion and their overtones and combinations and one frequency of the sulphate radical.
