Abstract

The behaviour of yield strength, tensile strength, tensile ductility, Bauschinger behaviour, fatigue life and crack propagation has been examined in a series of binary Ti-Mi alloys, all heat treated to give the same composition of alpha and beta phases. Since the composition of the alpha and beta phases were fixed in each of the alloys, properties depended on morphology, size and distribution, volume fraction, strength and slip characteristics of the individual phases and, in the case of crack propagation, texture. It has been possible to rationalize mechanical behaviour in terms of these variables.
