Abstract

Modern agricultural journalism was born in lndia with the advent of printing when three books on modem methods were got translated by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Now, ICAR publishes four journals and two newdetters in English and three in Hindi. Overall, about 250 periodicals in lndia are devoted to agriculture. The paper also describes the Agricultural Research lnformation Centre (ARIC) at Indian Council of Agricultural Research Headquarters, India, the databases available, publications broughtout and services rendered by the centre. Besides the importance of ARIC in SAARC countries, the proposals for the ninth plan are also discussed.
