Abstract

The current era has acquired the name of 'information era.' The synergy of disciplines covering. Computers and communication has contributed to the emergence of information technology and thereby information era. While it was pertinent for us to know what had happened with Gutenberg and subsequent developments that led to information explosion, it is also pertinent to know the impact of information technology on library profession. This paper aims at tracing the developments in information technology due to computers and communications;  the information scenario heading for paperless libraries;  and the impact it is likely to have on information personnel and agencies.
