Abstract : The influence of cardiac failure and the establishment of compensation on the volume of extracellular fluid has been determined in a variety of heart diseases known to be associated with salt and water retention. Significant elevation above normal values were found in all groups. It is concluded that congestive heart failure even after apparent recovery causes considerable elevation of extra-cellular fluid.
