Source : Defence Science Journal ; Vol:7(3) ; 1957 ; pp 123-139 Subject : 629.5 Marine Sciences Keywords : Marine ;Bombay harbour ;Antifouling research programme Abstract : Studies on the fouling organisms in Bombay harbour were undertaken as a part of the Antifouling Research Programme at NCML, Bombay, and the results obtained during a period of about three years (August 1953-May 1956) are described in the present paper. Structural details of the floating Raft on which experimental non-toxic panels were exposed every month have been mentioned. Seasonal variations in the attachment of the different groups of Fouling Organisms are described in detail. |
 | Future of marine boiler tube: A case history Author : Dere, V.A. ;Borkar, M.Y. Source : Defence Science Journal ; Vol:13(1) ; 1963 ; pp 82-86 Subject : 629.5 Marine Sciences Keywords : Marine ;Boiler tube ;Ballooning ;Equipment Abstract : An interesting case of marine boiler tube failure is described. As a result of local overheating, a ballooning burst occurred in a boiler tube. Evidence showed that a temperature of over 1600/degree/F (87/degree/C) had been reached before rupture. The presence of a thin film of copper arising from the auxiliary equipments of the boiler, caused pittings in the metal. failure was thus attributed to local overheating accelerated by an inner deposit of heat insulating scale. |
