Abstract : A theoretical formula is obtained for the decoupling of the seismic signals from underground explosions due to the introduction of a sheath of a stronger material on the cavity walls. The elastic-elastic decoupling clearly enhances the value of the elastic-nonelastic decoupling factor already known. The theory has applications in the concealing of underground nuclear and chemical explosions.
