Abstract : The vertical sound velocity distribution in a section of Visakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal has been computed making use of Kuwahara's tables. In an attempt to find out the corrections to the echo-sounder readings the average sound velocity distribution is computed together with the sound velocity profiles taking the spot values only. The physical oceanography of the area in relation to the sound velocity distribution is discussed. |
