Abstract : Transition metal picrates of the empirical compositions Ti(Picrate) CI/Sub3, Ti (Picrate)/Sub2CI/Sub2, Cr (OH) (H/Sub2O)/Sub6 (Pierate)/Sub2 and M(H/Sub2O)x (Picrate)/Sub2 (where M=Mn (II), Fe (II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) and x=4for Cu(II), 8 for Fe(II) & 6 for others) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, infrared and electronic spectral studies. Molar conductances and molecular weights of the soluble metal picrates show that TiCI/Sub2 (Picrate)/Sub2 is non electrolyte whereas others are 1:2 electrolytes. Magnetic susceptibility and electronic spectral I studies indicate that(II) picrate is square planar, whereas those of Cr(III) Mn(II0, Fe(II),Co(II) and NI(II) are spin free octahedral. The infrared spectral studies of the hydrated and anhydrous metal picrates show: (i) that phenolic group of the picric acid is involved in bounding with the metals;(ii) the water molecules in the hydrated metal picrates coordinated and (iii) the-NO/Sub2 groups do not participate in bonding with the metals.

Abstract : Hydrazine complexes of the compositions M(N/sub 2/H/sub 4/)/sub 2/ (Picrate)/sub 2/ H/sub 2/O (where M = Mn (II), Ni (II), Cu(II) or Zn(II), Co (N/sup 2/H/sup 4/) (Picrate)/sub 2/, Ni(N/sub 2/H/sub 4/)/sub 3/ (Picrate)/sub 2/, Zn(N/sub 2/H/sub 4/)/sub 4/ (Picrate)/sub 2/, and M/sup '/(N/sub 2/H/sub 4/)/sub 2/ (Picramate)/sub 2/ (where M/sup '/ = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) or Zn(II) have been prepared and characterized by analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, electronic and infrared spectral data. Molar conductance of the soluble complexes indicate that they are non-electrolytes in THF. Magnetic susceptibility and electronic spectral data suggest that all the complexes are spin-free octahedral except Co(N/sub 2/H/sub 4/) (Picrate)/sub 2/ which is tetrahedral. Infrared spectral studies show that hydrazine behaves as a monodentate ligand in its complexes with metal picramates and as a bidentate bridging ligand in all complexes with metal (II) picrates, except Zn(N/sub 2/H/sub 4)/sub 4/ (Picrate)/sub 2/ where it is monodentate.

Abstract : Addition compounds of the compositions SnX/sub 4/.xL and R/sub n/SnX/sub 4-n/.xL where X=Cl/sup -/, Br/sup -/, I/sup -/, or (NCS)/sup -/, R=phenyl or n-butyl, L = picolinic acid hydrazide (PH), nicotinic acid hydrazide (NH) or isonicotinic acide hydrazide (INH), x=1 or 2 and n= 1,2 or 3 have been prepared and characterised with the help of elemental analysis, molar conductance, UV and IR spectral studies. All the adducts are nonionic as evidenced from their low molar conductances in DMF. UV and IR spectral studies show that NH and INH coordiante through carbonyl oxygen and terminal nitrogen; and (PH) through carbonyl oxygen and ring nitrogen in monoadducts. All the three isometric pyridine carboxylic acid hydrazides are coordinated through pyridine nitrogen alone in the di-adducts. Octahedral geometry has been proposed for mono-as well as di-adducts.
