Abstract : A new type of priority is defined in which the priority unit has a right of interrupting the service of a nonpriority unit but only after the completion of the particular phase in progress, it being assumed that a unit demands a particular number of phases according to some probability distribution. The effect of such priority has been investigated. A particular case of this sort of priority corresponds to the head-of-line priority assignment discussed by Cobham
